About Us

We are Greg and Claire Chapman. We retired in 2012 after the sale of our construction business and as we have owned this section for fifteen years we decided the time was right to relocate to Waitarere. In 2017 we revisited and redesigned the house plan; setting the building construction in motion.

Our other family member is Harley – our Schnauzer. Harley has free range of the house and garden but much to his disappointment he is not allowed in the guest apartment or patio area, nor is the apartment area suitable for animals.

We have both been, and are still active in golf, walking, biking, kayaking, white-baiting and fishing, and wanted to assimilate our lifestyle with meeting people – a bed and breakfast seemed the perfect solution!

While we have travelled overseas, we are now keen to share our home with fellow travellers both from New Zealand and from around the world – while showcasing a small part of our world to you.

And as to the name ‘THE ANCHORAGE’ there is a 7.5 tonne, 102-year-old cast iron anchor on the front lawn! We are unsure what ship this came from, but the anchor (the design is called an Admiralty Pattern which was designed in the 1830’s) came from a propulsion steam/sail ship from Tahiti and provides a great landmark for guests. All we have to say when directing people to our bed and breakfast is, “to look for the anchor”. Who needs a letterbox!
